Tl;dr is, it doesn't work at all even if fastrak says it should. Possibly due to different standards across different fastrak agencies. I've had the box from the oc express lanes which has a switch on it that i bought through costco when i lived in long beach. Just brought it up here and it worked fine.

Most 915mhz comms are between stationary devices and the signals can be repeated multiple times until acknowledged. With fastrak you get one shot per site zone.
