Black women are prominent in the black church, outnumbering men in all aspects of religiosity. Since 2018, there has been a 31% decline in discipleship among black men, as 45% feel that religion and church are unimportant to them. They are much older. During the pandemic and over the past two years, one in eight churches in my area alone has failed or closed. However, there has been a significant decline in the attendance of black men in the church. For the black church to remain relevant, it may need to address systemic concerns, promote inclusivity, and embrace more progressive leadership models. Providing platforms for black men to lead, voice concerns, and engage in meaningful dialogue could reinvigorate participation.
