Nope, not the jar itself, the band, lid & gasket blew off (spewing hot pasta sauce mostly on my left hand and arm). After i rinsed my arm in cold water and soaked in cold aloe vera juice most of the night, i found the band, lid & gasket (on the floor in front of the cabinet where it blew out). If you don't leave enough headspace your jars certainly can explode.

Been there done that, had a mess to clean up. Also, let cool before you freeze. And great tip leaving lids off until frozen. Clean any leaked liquid off the outside of the jar with a hot soapy rag because obviously anything outside the jar is prone to spoilage.

Occasionally the seal on jars that lost liquid during processing or cooling will fail later when a bit of fat, liquid, or produce matter dislodges the seal. Cleanup took several hours. Use a church key (bottle opener with a point) use the pointed end to open the jar. If you puncture the lid it will relieve the pressure and the glass should be fine, if it does not get punctured then the lid had been bent and removed and you are good. Let the pressure out for 2 to 3 seconds and then let it rip.
