Below, i briefly describe my main lines of research, each of which is devoted to a different aspect of this overarching question. The first, empathy and humane understanding, is my primary project. Empathy is a form of emotionally charged imaginative perspective‐taking. It is also the unique source of a particular form of understanding, which i will call humane understanding. But how do i participate?
