Each silo can store up to 240 hay. The current amount stored can be checked by interacting with it. Once you build and fill your first silo for your coop/barn (whichever you prefer for whichever farm map!) you can pull all the hay out of the hopper and put it in a chest! Then rinse and repeat as necessary as the silo fills up again. They hold all the grass you cut as hay.
