When complete, it stores hay from grass cut on the farm. Each silo can store up to 240 hay. The current amount stored can be checked by interacting with it. Once you build and fill your first silo for your coop/barn (whichever you prefer for whichever farm map!) you can pull all the hay out of the hopper and put it in a chest! Then rinse and repeat as necessary as the silo fills up again.
